CRS Recommendation for Cleaning Polished Concrete Floors
Polished concrete floors are the easiest and most cost-effective type
of flooring to maintain and clean. It's surface is as hard as granite or
marble. One of the advantages of polished concrete floors is that it
will not stain. Chewing gum will not stick. Liquids will not soak in or
stain. It's surface does not harbor dust mites or support the growth of
mold and mildew which makes it a health alternative to other floorings.
Polished concrete surface is easy it maintain by vacuuming and mopping. No harsh detergents or cleaners are needed. A two bucket and mop systems works best. Keep a bucket of water clean and rinse in the other bucket to keep the mop clean. CRS also recommends Swiffer® or steam mop for easy clean up.
Swiffer® has several different products that work very well for cleaning polished concrete floors. Swiffer® Sweeper which has dry and wet cloths. With a Dry Cloth, pick up 50% more dirt, dust, and hair than a broom. Then use a Wet Mopping Cloth to dissolve dirt and grime better than a mop. It's a two-in-one tool designed to give you a smarter clean.
Swiffer® SweeperVac® has a powerful cordless vacuum for grabbing crumbs, leaves, pet hair, and cereal; plus a textured Swiffer Dry SweepingCloth for trapping and locking fine dirt and dust.
Another alternative cleaning product on the market is the steam mop. The best thing about the steam mops is there's no pail of water. Some steamers can take up to 30 seconds to heat up, but that seems like nothing compared to lugging a pail of water around. The steam mop is really good at loosening stains and sticky or tough food spills even after they've dried. It's debatable on whether or not steam mops clean as good as a regular mop, but those who own a steam mop prefer it for it's convenience. There are some steam mops on the market that create enough steam that is hot enough to sanitize the surface. The microfiber covers are machine-washable. There are steam-vacuum systems on the market that can also be used on polished concrete floors.
With the steam mops eliminating the need for chemical detergents, it can save money and is also an advantage for homes with children or pets since chemicals can emit fumes and leave a residue on floors.
Next time you need to clean your polished concrete floors try a Swiffer® product or steam mop. They will make cleaning much easier.
Swiffer® is a brand name for Procter & Gamble's mopping system. There are other wet mop brands such as Clorox®, Rubbermaid®, Bona, etc. that work just as well.
